A Victorian receiving locket brooch engraved with a crane and a cherry tree. This feels very specific, doesn't it? Both motifs symbolize good fortune, longevity, eternal youth, and immortality in Eastern and Western cultures. Very auspicious. The hand-engraved scene is charming. This sterling silver brooch is round, framed in an elaborate zigzag pattern accented with delicate beading in the Grand Period mode. A locket is found on the back, perfect for a photo or a lock of hair. The locket is backed in blue fabric, and the glass has been replaced with plastic. Finished with a small bale and the c-clasp closure common to the era. So sweet, this would make a thoughtful Mother's Day gift. Circa 1870.
Details.....The locket measures 1.48" in diameter and .35" thick. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
